Mario Gomez, Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos and Arjen Robben set to miss Stuttgart clash - Bundesliga News
As Bayern Munich prepare to get back on the winning track, they have been dealt a huge blow ahead of their next league game against VfB Stuttgart. Four of their star players: Mario Gomez, Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos and Arjen Robben, are set to miss the clash
due to suspected flu.
Bayern will travel away to Mercedes-Benz-Arena on Sunday, December 11, for their next league game against VfB Stuttgart. A loss on Sunday could see Bayern slip down to the third spot, should Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach win their respective
games.
The aforementioned players also missed the Champions League game against Manchester City on Wednesday, where the Reds were forced to field a second string outfit. Bayern, as a result, slipped to a 2-0 loss but still qualified for the knockout stages as Group
A leaders.
Gomez and Muller were both present at Etihad Stadium but didn’t take part in the game. Kroos and Robben, however, were deemed unfit to travel and are also expected to miss out against Stuttgart on Sunday.
Bayern manager, Jupp Heynckes, also confirmed of the player’s uncertain condition but was still hopeful of fielding at least two of the key players against the Swabians.
He told that it would be a huge loss for Bayern to go into the game without the services of these top performers, as Bayern can’t afford to drop any more points.
While talking to Kicker on the players’ conditions, Heynckes further stated:
"Mario has trouble with his bronchi, which is also very alarming. Both are taking antibiotics because they can see how serious this is.”
Bayern are currently atop the league table with 31 points from 15 games, one point clear of the reigning champions, Borussia Dortmund, and last year's relegation contenders, Borussia Monchengladbach.
A win would help Bayern retain the top spot on the table but a loss could bring them down to the third spot.
