Mario Gomez: I am not anywhere near Barcelona’s Lionel Messi - Bundesliga News
After having a disappointing outing on Sunday, Bayern Munich striker, Mario Gomez, has expressed that he is not even close to Barcelona’s Lionel Messi. He also expressed disappointment at his team’s loss to Mainz and vowed to bounce back next week against
Werder Bremen.
Gomez was talking after his side were shockingly robbed of all the three points at Coface Arena by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166. Both teams locked horns on Sunday, November 27, with the O-Fives winning by 3-2 margin.
The striker looked out of sorts despite scoring early in the midweek against Villarreal in the Champions League. Gomez was also seen missing a couple of opportunities during the first half when Mainz were leading 1-0.
Well aware of his comparisons with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296, the German considered it an honour for himself but reckoned that he is no way near the talent that is Messi.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Switzerland-c3016 manager, Ottmar Hitzfeld, compared Gomez with Messi, following his tremendous run this season. The striker is currently the top goal scorer in the Bundesliga and stands level with Messi in the Champions League.
Gomez stated that the Ballon d’ Or award winner is way ahead and there’s still a long way to go for him to even reach the shadow of the magician.
However, the player showed gratitude to the Swiss manager for comparing him with the world’s best player and vowed to reach the same level as that of the Catalonian star.
While talking to the official FIFA website, the 26-year-old further added:
"I'm aware that Ottmar Hitzfeld isn't just any old commentator, he's a celebrated and successful coach, so I'm certainly proud if that’s what he said. Not as much about being compared to Messi, who’s a completely different type of player, but because of
the significance of the statement.
"Personally, I’d never compare myself to him, but I’m aware of my strengths, and I know I have plenty of goals in me, now and in the future." Gomez concluded.
Gomez currently has 13 league goals to his name this season from as many appearances and will next be seen in action against the fourth placed Werder Bremen.
