Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has apologised to all the fans and officials for missing a penalty against Napoli on Tuesday. The striker was presented with an opportunity to put his team in front early in the second half, only to be denied by the
Blues keeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Morgan-De-Sanctis-c26801.
The Bundesliga giants made a trip to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toni-Kroos-c35425 earned Bayern a lead in just the second minute which was cancelled out by Holger Badstuber’s
own goal on the 39th minute mark.
Bayern made a fine start to the game on Tuesday, looking in total control for the first 30 minutes. Kroos made full use of an early opportunity but his effort was overshadowed by Badstuber’s mistake six minutes from half time.
Immediately after the restart, Gomez earned his side a penalty, but unfortunately, his effort went straight into the safe hands of De Sanctis. Apart from the missed penalty, the Bavarians also squandered other opportunities to go in front, eventually
finishing on level terms.
The striker admitted his mistake by apologising to the club officials and fans after the game. He vowed to compensate for his mistake by putting in a more organised effort, when the club next return to action against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hannover-96-c39492 on Sunday.
Speaking to the club’s official website after Tuesday’s game, the 26-year-old further enthused, "I have to apologise to the team for missing the penalty. My idea was to aim for the centre of the goal – but somehow I sent it low and to the right. You
should always stick with the first thing you think of.”
He concluded his talks by saying, "But despite that, we still had enough chances to win it. At the final whistle, you walk off the field basically satisfied with a point, but dissatisfied because you could have won. It's a slightly odd feeling. We
now have consecutive home matches against Napoli and Villarreal – we have to win them both, and then we’re through."
Despite securing a point against Napoli on Tuesday, the Reds are currently atop Champions League Group A with seven points from three games, followed by Napoli, Manchester City and Villarreal.
Jupp Heynckes’ side are also leading the Bundesliga table with 22 points from nine games and are yet to be beaten in any competition since last losing to Borussia Monchengladbach on August 7.
