Mario Gomez believes Bayern Munich were superb against Manchester City – UCL News
Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez believes that his side was superb against Manchester City on Tuesday. The two clubs locked heads on September 27 at Allianz-Arena with Bavarian giants winning by a 2-0 margin. Gomez was on hand to score both the goals for
Die Roten on the night.
The German international reckons that the visitors made a fluent start to the game but couldn’t capitalize on it. He showered praise on midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bastian-Schweinsteiger-c7374 and winger Franck Ribery for providing accurate balls that led to the two decisive goals.
Last season’s Bundesliga top scorer opened the scoring on the 38th minute mark, doubling the lead just seven minutes later in the 45th minute. He accepted the fact that his side started slowly but added that they gradually picked up
momentum. The player, though, reserved praise for his English opponents who showed composure in the opening few minutes.
Gomez also lauded his manager, Heynckes, who has been an inspiration ever since filling in the boots of Louis van Gaal earlier this year.
While talking to the local press after Tuesday’s game, the German international further enthused, "We had difficulties in the first 15 to 20 minutes, then afterwards we worked better in our defensive play, and, from the 25th minute on, we clearly dominated
the match and won deservedly. We started a bit nervously; I don't know why - there was no reason. They have a strong team, we know that, but we distributed the ball well from the 25th minute on.”
Gomez has scored 46 goals for his side from 67 league appearances and is already a candidate for this year’s top goalscorer award. The striker has scored eight goals this term from just the six league matches and will next be seen in action against Hoffenheim
on Saturday, October 1.
