Mario Gomez claims Chelsea made a bid for him while the Blues eye Josip Ilicic
Chelsea made £36.5 million bid for Mario Gomez
Mario Gomez, the Bayern Munich striker, recently claimed that the Bundesliga outfit rejected a £36.5 million bid from English Premier League giants Chelsea during the January transfer window. The Blues were apparently keeping the striker as back-up in case
the deadline day agreement with Liverpool over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 was not successful. However, the deal went through and Torres made a record breaking move to Stamford Bridge for an amount of £50 million, leaving Gomez with the Bavarian club.
Apparently the Blues made a move for Gomez on the last day of the transfer window because of which the striker was not even aware of the offer. “I only found out about the offer after the club had turned it down. But it wouldn't have mattered anyway. I am
already at a top club and I am playing where I always wanted to.”
The 25-year-old is currently the top goal scorer in the Bundesliga with 16 goals in 19 games. He moved to Bayern Munich from Stuttgart in the summer of 2009 for a German record fee of £25 million. He was an instant success, scoring 14 goals for them as Bayern
won the Bundesliga and the German cup. They also reached the Champions League final but were unfortunately beaten 2-0 by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan. He has made 44 appearances for the German national side and has scored 14 goals.

According to reports Tottenham, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Chelsea are keeping a close watch on 23-year-old Josip Ilicic. The player’s agent Amir Ruznic confirmed these reports, saying that the some of the top English Premier League sides are determined to land the Slovenian
midfielder.
Ruznic revealed while speaking to reporters, “Clubs from England are going crazy for him - Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea all want him. But Chelsea wants him the most. There is also an interest from Spain, other Italian clubs and Russia, but I doubt that
transfer will happen soon.”
Ruznic admitted that most clubs were prepared to pay about €15 million for the young midfielder; however he said an offer of over €25 million could land the player as soon as the summer transfer window. Even though Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini revealed
he would like to retain the player for two more years, if the right price is offered the player could be on his way out.
Chelsea could use someone like Ilicic at Stamford Bridge, especially with a summer offloading planned. Some of the older, experienced players are expected to be on their way out, which will make way for other players. The new policy at Chelsea is to bring
in younger players and Ilicic would be a perfect fit.
