The Bayern Munich striker is reportedly close to signing a new deal at the club following his sensational run this season.
Mario Gomez’s agent, Uli Ferber, has confirmed that his client is close to extending his stay at Allianz Arena. The striker has been in prolific form this season and is well on his way to secure a second successive Golden Boot
Award. The Reds’ bosses are eager to retain Gomez at the Allianz Arena and are eager to offer him a renewed deal considering the striker’s current contract ends next year.
The agent mentioned that the attacker has apparently no complaints against his current employers and is relishing his superb form. He confirmed that there are a few top European sides interested in Gomez but his client has no intentions
of parting ways with the German giants.
Gomez has played a significant role in his team’s dramatic turnaround after the winter break as Bayern are just five points adrift of Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
While addressing a sports publication, Bild, Ferber further added:
"We have made some progress. Mario is enjoying his spell at Bayern Munich and he likes the city. We have therefore not been looking at any other options at any other club. At this point in time a new contract with Bayern Munich
looks very likely. There is almost nothing against it."
Gomez has had an incredible goal scoring campaign and has thus far netted 35 goals from 38 appearances in all competitions. The attacker’s current deal will expire next season but he could be retained until 2016 if Gomez eventually
puts pen to paper.
The former Stuttgart star initially signed a four-year deal with the Bavarian giants in 2009 and has amassed 60 league goals from 86 appearances until now. Bayern would desperately be looking at Gomez to maintain his current form
and possibly lead them to much needed silverware at the end of the season.
Bayern will return to action against Hannover on Saturday, March 24, at the Allianz Arena before their first-leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Olympique Marseille on March 28.
