The Bavarian striker hails his team for securing a place in the last four of the German Cup and is confident of improvement in the future games.
Bayern Munich emerged victorious at the Mercedes-Benz-Arena on Wednesday with a 2-0 score-line as they secured their place in the last four of the competition. Jupp Heynckes’ side redeemed themselves after a rather disappointing
start to the second-half of the campaign. The Munich giants are still competing in three competitions namely the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and the UEFA Champions League.
Gomez, who is currently leading the Bundesliga goal scoring charts, is elated on reaching the semi-final of the German Cup and on scoring a goal to contribute to the success of his team. He insisted that Bayern are certainly on
the way up the ladder and is hopeful that the progress continues in the remainder of the season also.
“We’re in the semi-finals, which is where we wanted to be. The manner and style of the victory mattered a lot, and it was very good today. Today was a first step. It's not yet perfect, but long may it continue,” the former VfB
Stuttgart striker stated.
On the other hand, Thomas Muller admitted that his side has regained the lost touch and was impressed by Bayern’s attacking mindset in the game. He claimed that the win in the German Cup is not enough as the team has to perform
in the league as well.
“We kept it tight, we tried to put over more crosses, it always looked threatening when we played the ball in behind the defence, and we battled away very well. We have to keep up the good work now, and win our next two or three
matches,” Muller was quoted as saying in an interview to the club’s official website..
The Bavarian giants will next face FC Kaiserslautern at Allianz Arena in a bid to reclaim the lead at the top of the Bundesliga table. They will be hoping that Borussia Dortmund drop points against Bayer Leverkusen in the clash
at Signal Iduna Park in order to move back to the number one place.
