The Bayern Munich striker has brushed aside comparisons with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 and wants to continue playing his natural game.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 striker has been compared to Lionel Messi by the former Bayern manager, Ottmar Hitzfeld. The 62-year-old boss claimed that Gomez is as important to Bayern as Messi is to the Catalan giants because of the amount of goals he scores.
However, Gomez has played down these comparisons, and wants to focus on his natural game. He added that it's an honour for him to be compared to such a top quality player, and showed his gratitude to Hitzfeld on the comments.
The striker insisted that these comments are surely a motivation for him and one of the main reasons of his great form recently. He further added that things can change very quickly in football so he wants to keep focussing and working hard.
While talking to reporters ahead of his club’s friendly against Al Ahly, Gomez further stated:
“On one hand it tells me, I am on the right track forward and that I am in good shape and form at the moment. On the other hand, I know very well how quickly things can change from positive to negative or vice versa in football.”
“That’s why I will always try to play to my best ability and to remain fit and healthy because that is most important. If I keep performing well, I will continue scoring goals and remain important for the team,” he concluded.
The last season’s Golden Boot winner has been in outstanding form this term and has already amassed 16 league goals from as many appearances. The striker has been similarly lethal on the European front having scored seven goals in as many games.
Gomez is currently training with his team in Doha, and will return to action once the winter break ends on Friday, January 20, against Borussia Monchengladbach.
