The Bayern Munich striker is looking forward to lead his team into the finals of the UEFA Champions League by maintaining the same form from the season’s first half.
Bayern Munich have been sensational in Europe this season and have progressed to the knock-out stages of the Champions League, winning the ‘Group of Death’. The team got the better of Manchester City, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 and Villarreal to qualify
for the next phase of the competition.
Gomez is aiming to win the Champions League final in front of the home fans and hopes to dethrone the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and Real Madrid. The striker reckons that both the Spanish outfits are firm favourites to become the best
team in Europe, and Bayern needs to match their level in order to achieve the feat.
Gomez has been in the form of his life this season, and averages one goal per game. Apart from scoring 16 league goals from as many appearances, the attacker has also scored seven times in Europe from seven games.
The striker believes that Bayern are in with a perfect opportunity to win this year’s competition. He stated that the Reds will have to pave their own way by tormenting each opposition if they want to feature in the final, to be
held at the Allianz-Arena.
When asked whether Bayern is realistically looking forward to reach the finals or just dreaming of the big occasion, Gomez added:
“Both. It is the dream of us, all footballers, to win the Champions League at some point in your career and Bayern does offer us that possibility. We are one of the best five-to-seven teams on the planet and we have to get demonstrate
that.”
However, the former Stuttgart striker admitted that it will certainly not be easy to win the competition as there is still a long way to go. He urged his teammates to stay focussed, and take advantage of their good form once the
season resumes on January 20 after the winter break.
“However, you cannot plan to win the Champions League. You have to overcome so many obstacles, all the good teams in the competition and the aforementioned five or six teams that can realistically win it.” Gomez concluded while
talking to Ten Action.
Bayern Munich will take on Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, January 20, in a tough away game.
