Borussia Dortmund have received a major boost with the return of their attacking midfielder after a lengthy layoff.
Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder, Mario Gotze, is nearing a comeback after spending a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an inflammation of the pubic bone. The midfielder has not featured for the Borussians since last
December when the teams went into the winter break and has now returned to light training.
The Black Yellows’ displays have not been affected in Gotze’s absence but will definitely benefit with the teenager’s return. Gotze has already become one of the key members of Dortmund’s line-up and could be on his way for his
second successive Bundesliga triumph.
The youngster’s return would further strengthen the Borussians starting XI who are yet to lose a game since returning from the mid-season break.
Dortmund manager, Jurgen Klopp, has also confirmed about Gotze’s return to training but is in no hurry to bring him back to action. He stated that the medical team will initially observe the youngster’s progress in training before
finalising a return date for him.
While talking to Dortmund’s official website, Klopp further added: "We will see what's possible. We will remain calm and patient. We hope that he recovers quickly - and wait until that happens."
Gotze has so far managed 14 league appearances this season prior to getting injured. He collected five goals and as many assists and is looking forward to further contribute in his team’s ambitions of retaining the Bundesliga crown.
The midfielder also played a major role last season in Dortmund’s title triumph. He was influential in almost every game he played and netted six goals and accumulated 15 assists from 33 Bundesliga appearances.
Dortmund are currently atop the league standings with 56 points from 25 games, five points clear of second-placed Bayern Munich. With nine games remaining in the competition, the title race is expected to get even more intense
considering Bayern’s recent form in all competitions.
The Borussians will next be in action against Werder Bremen on Saturday, March 17, at the Signal Iduna Park.
