Mario Kart Wii Time Trials HELP!!!!

Question

For Mario Kart Wii time trials u can unlock expert staff ghost data. i have atleast 4 b/c i unlocked Funky Kong but not 8 b/c i haven't unlocked baby Luigi but i'm trying to. For the Koopa Cape stage it says i have to beat the time 2:54.897 and i did. my time was 2:51.649. but i can only race some random guys ghost and for whatever reason i can't unlock the expert ghost! HELP!!!!
