Mario Kart Wii characters!???

Question

ok so after i was done beating one of the 50cc grad prixs, it said that i got the character king boo, then when i went bak to the character selection screen about 4 or 5 of the characters had a question mark on them, like i cudnt use them when they were availible before i got king boo. i just got this game and idk why that happend. also, my cousin brought his mario kart wii and played it on my wii system. does that have to do anything with it?

if you notice, there are even more character boxes then there were before.....you didn't lose any characters.

when u unlock more characters u unlock more question mark boxes

there should be 24 characters including mii option a and b

i have all characters but i need mii option b

When you unlock a character it opens more slots for hidden characters they were not available until you beat that grand prix,
