Two little tid bits of gaming news sees Nintendo plan a new Mario game for the 3DS and Street Fighter X Tekken sees Mega Man added to the roster.
Starting things off with Nintendo and their resurgent portable gaming console, the Nintendo 3DS. The handheld gaming device had a rocky start but ended the year as the best selling console of last year, which was largely down to a price cut and better software (video game titles) on offer.
Super Mario 3D Land was the best selling game on the 3DS so it is no surprise that the company want to keep that success going and have already announced a new Mario title.
The latest entry in the series is a return to the old school Mario style and is confirmed to be a 2D side scroller. The announcement was made by Satoru Iwata, the President of Nintendo, during a briefing of the company’s financial results.
It was also confirmed that the game would form a major part of the company’s strategy for the upcoming fiscal year.
He admitted that he did not have much to show for the game at the moment, as it was in its early stages of development, yet everyone could expect more news on the title in the coming year, “Although there is no logo here, we are planning to release a totally new side-scrolling action Super Mario in 2D as a key title for the Nintendo 3DS in the next fiscal year”.
The news will be great for Mario fans and 3DS users alike.
Moving on to the eagerly anticipated universe cross-over title Street Fighter X Tekken, and it seems that an unlikely character will also be making an entry in the debut of the series.
Mega Man is set to join the cast and crew as a playable character in the game, albeit the classic character will retain his look for his first box art.
The character will only be appearing on the PlayStation 3 version of the game is a console exclusive yet we will have to wait and see if every console is getting an exclusive character or not.
