Mario vs Sonic: Who is better?

Question

Me and an X-friend of mine had a little argument a while ago (YouTubers will know him as BlueBlur66, and you will know me as SMBZ1) So I'll ask you who is better? Mario or Sonic?

Mario's Strengths:

Jumps higher than Sonic.

He can swim.

He can shoot fireballs.

He lifts a giant turtle most likely 8 hundred pounds or more.

He has supreme power over Sonic.

Mario's weaknesses:

He is slower.

Might not get alot of hits in (ones he will be powerful though)

Sonic's Strengths:

Is faster.

Can break steel robots.

Can run through loops.

Can get many hits in (But not powerful ones)

Sonic's weaknesses:

Can't swim.

Not as powerful.

Can not be hit without rings.

Now before any of you say "Sonic will run right through Mario, he runs at the speed of sound!" He doesn't run that fast (Animie/T.V. shows DON'T COUNT) And even if he did it takes time for him to run that fast. And don't say "Mario is fat" He isn't that fat to be honest, most Americans are probably heavier than him. Answer fair and don't pick favorites. I personally think that Mario is a little bit better, but I think of them as equals.

Sonic easily. If he does lose a fight, he can go and train for about a day at his speed and then wipe the floor with Mario.

I like Mario better...Im not a seroius gamer so I dont completely analyze each character but I have always like playing Mario's games over Sonic's.

Probs Sonic, his speed will probs help, though if Mario gets a power up it may level the field agains Sonic, or if Mario stands near water, then Sonic will run past him into the water.

Well you also have to look at ALL the power ups these guys get in all of their games. like for Mario he gets the shells to hit people with the fire flower, the cape form super Mario world, all those power ups form Super Mario Bros. three like the raccoon power up and the frog suit power up. he can use his bombs enemies to his advantage. And Sonic Doesn't really have anything other than the Chaos Emeralds which make him invincible yes, but he also needs rings in order to keep him in that state, and Mario too has an invincible power up which is the star man and when Mario uses that he doesn't need anything to him in that state but it does wear off very soon. Well actually Sonic does have a couple more power ups like in Sonic Adventure 2- Battle (Dreamcast/ Gamecube) sonic has those shoes that let him travel through a line of rings really really fast, and he could get this one thing that let him bounce like a bouncy ball. But over all Mario has a lot more power ups than Sonic can dream of.

And there are also other abilities that each possess that the other doesn't like sonic can run on walls and has that homing attack where he attacks one enemy after another without touching the ground until there are no more enemies. then Mario has... well  you actually named most of them, but he can also wall jump but sonic can do that too but in a different style. Although Mario can play just about every sport known to man-- Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Golf, Tennis, and Race car driving. Sonic has really been in only one sports basted game which is Sega superstar Tennis.

So In the End I think Mario Is Better. Now go tell your friend all that.
