Marion Bartoli decimates Maria Elena Camerin to reach the second round of 2011 BMW Malaysian Open
French tennis player Marion Bartoli ousted Italian pro Maria Elena Camerin in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round of the 2011 BMW Malaysian Open, winning the match in under an hour and fifteen minutes.
Bartoli, who is currently World Number 17, dominated the match from the beginning. The 26-year-old was in top form for the tournament, scoring two aces and no double faults in the first round. She also managed to save both of her break points, along with
converting three out of four opportunities against Elena Camerin. The Frenchwoman won her first set with a bagel, scoring 67 percent of the total points.
The player, who has defeated Elena Camerin thrice before, cruised into the second set of the first-round match to retain her dominating position during the match. She scored the lone ace in the set, and converted four of five break points against her opponent.
In addition to this, she also amassed an impressive 68 percent of the total points in the set. She concluded the match with a fry, setting up a 6-0, 6-1 score-line.
Bartoli’s hard-hitting, aggressive style and her two-handed forehand helped her to win the match against her Elena Camerin, who is ranked World Number 115.  Bartoli’s technique has been compared to that of Monica Seles, who influenced the player’s tennis
training heavily. However, Bartoli plays right-handed unlike Seles.
Bartoli and Elena Camerin’s head-to-head record is now 4-1, with Bartoli leading the competition. The Frenchwoman defeated her 28-year-old opponent in their most recent meeting at the 2010 French Open last year, winning the match 6-2, 6-3. In fact, Camerin
has only been able to overcome Bartoli once, winning their first match at the 2004 Estoril event in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Bartoli has been defeating her consistently since then.
Marion Bartoli is seeded second at this tournament, behind Italian pro Francesca Schiavone. This is the first time she is taking part in the 2011 BMW Malaysian Open. The French player will now face Russian pro Ekaterina Ivanova, who defeated compatriot Nina
Bratchikova 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the first round.
