Marion Bartoli digs deep to beat Lourdes Lino in the second round – Wimbledon Championships 2011
France’s Marion Bartoli beat Spain’s Lourdes Dominguez Lino 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the second round of the Wimbledon Championship, being played here at the All England Tennis Club, The Frenchwoman showed no signs of slowing down and
rallied from first set down to beat the Spaniard to reach the third round of tournament for the second time in her career.
The French No.1 barely got a look in during the opener as such was the power and accuracy flowing from Lino’s racquet.  A solitary break of serve in the tenth game was as good as it got, and the blustering Spaniard looked certain
to race up to a 6-4 victory in two hours and twenty two minutes.
The Spaniard clinched the opener with a whopping ten winners while committing just five unforced errors. Not to mention, she clinched 70 percent of points on her first serve, 67 percent of points on her second serve and a total
of 12 of 27 points on return, entering the decider in her very own style.
However, Lino was unable to reach the same bewitching heights in the second set, starting to make a lot of unforced errors and was not able to find the same range of her meaty groundstrokes that she had earlier in the opener. Bartoli
meanwhile, raised the level of her own game and capitalised, breaking in the twelfth game to tie the score at one set apiece.
After losing the second set, Lino was showing visible signs of discomfort, whether this was fatigue, sportsmanship or a combination of both, only she knows for sure. Regardless, both women were playing splendidly, but few breaks
later, Bartoli found herself serving for the match. She won the decider six games to two.
Bartoli now moves on ahead top face Francesca Schiavone of Italy in the third round of the tournament. Both women will do the battle for the seventh time in their careers, with the Italian leading their head-to-head series to 5-1.
The French No.1 is definitely going to meet a huge hurdle in her next round opponent so, if the French lady desires any success, she will have to come up with something extra-ordinary to navigate her way through to the fourth round.
