Marion Bartoli discovers her supreme form at Stanford – Tennis News
Number one Frenchwoman, Marion Bartoli, finds her classic run of form against Mallory Burdette, to cruise into the quarter-finals of the Bank of West Classic Tournament in Stanford. She is the second seeded player of the tournament
and expected to reach the final along with the Five-time Wimbledon Champion, Serena Williams, who tops the list of seeded players in the event contested in California.
Bartoli expressed her experience of playing with the unranked university player and winning in straight sets in following words, “She was playing well at the start. She was hitting the lines and the corners. It was not easy to
come back. I had to wait for the storm to calm.”
Bartoli won the title in 2009 here and was runners-up on two occurrences in 2008 and 2011. So, she has some good memories with the hard court field of California and might give tough time to the defending champion, Williams, who
is undoubtedly in the best form of her last five years of the career.
Bartoli further added, "I needed to take the momentum away from her. I stepped up and played harder. I tried to get more first serves in. I had the momentum going into the second set. But I knew it would not be easy until the last
point, I didn't want it to slip away." The second seed Bartoli was tested in the opening set which she won 7-5 but slaughtered the American university player in the second set; registering a terrific bagel.
She confessed that her experience was the key to her victory as she stated, "My experience paid off and helped me a lot. I have good memories here. I was not worried; I knew I could come back." She is ranked 10 in the world and
deserves to receive the acclaim for her classic comeback against the youngster who hardly had any professional level experience.
She was down 1-4 in the opening set but jumped back in the contest with utmost authority and drove her opponent out of the competition. This is alarming news for all her potential opponent especially the next one who is the fifth
seed Belgian, Yanina Wickmayer.
