Marion Bartoli dispatches Julia Goerges in round two – Toray Pan Pacific Open 2012

World number 10, Marion Bartoli, continues to hammer her opponents apart in the Toray Pan Pacific Open. On Tuesday, she gusted away the 21st ranked German star, Julia Goerges, in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 to book a spot
in the third round of the tournament.
It has been a pretty successful tournament so far for the Frenchwoman who has not seen a single difficult situation yet. An hour and 43 minutes conquest witnessed 74 points going in favour of the French whilst 60 were bagged by
the struggling German.
Goerges won just a single point in the maiden serve game of the match and went down to a meagre trail of 0-2 courtesy a serve hold for Bartoli. The 27-year-old French star kept the pressure on her rival and bagged the second breakpoint
in the fifth game of the match making it 4-1 in her favour. She was cruising along and lost just two points on her way to a lead of 5-1 in the opening set.
Goerges tried her best to keep the set alive by holding her serve to love and creating an opportunity for a breakthrough but she wasn’t able to convert it in her favour and fell apart quite early than expected. It was a terrible
start for the 23-year-old German who has been struggling to keep up the standards she set at the start of the tournament when she was almost close on breaking into the Top-10 players list.
The second set witnessed a swirl in the momentum with the passage of every game. Both players bagged a couple of breakpoints at the start to push the scores at 2-2. Bartoli was serving extremely well but the German had some problems,
however, Goerges always recovered well to keep the scores together. Both players bagged their respective serve games to take the scoreboard at 5-5.
It was the time when the German superstar failed to handle the pressure and fell victim to the onslaught launched by the French. She lost a breakpoint and couldn’t break serve back to keep the match alive. Marion Bartoli plays
the sixth seed Italian, Sara Errani, in round three.
