Marion Bartoli faces a race against time to recover for the quarter-final clash – Tennis News
World number 10, Marion Bartoli, will lock horns with the American talented professional, Christina McHale, in the quarter-final of the Mercury Insurance Open at Carlsbad on the eve of Friday if she manages to recover from the
left hip injury that incurred during the second round of the tournament.
However, she managed to squeeze through that stage against the American star, Vania King, after a lengthy treatment but that was just a mere bandage that helped to lessen the strain on the left hip. She is still struggling from
that problem and having a race against time to recover before the start of the quarter-final contest.
In an interview, Bartoli stated, "I will be able to rest and have good work on it from the physio and get my whole body loose and relaxed." Her performance was clearly hurt by this issue and she committed 18 double-faults in the
match against King that is completely uncharacteristic of her. She further added, "It is great to have a day off, that's for sure. But I will have to figure out why my serve is not on right now."
McHale ousted Misaki Doi in the second round of the tournament. However, she was complementary towards her performance at the end of the match and stated, "I have to give credit to Misaki because she played really, really well.
She made it hard for me. In the third set I started finding my rhythm more on my serve, which made it easier than for me to hold."
The 27th ranked American, McHale, is all set to take on the number one Frenchman with full throttle and the hip injury will most probably restrict the stroke making of the 27-year-old French superstar. So, the contest
is definitely in favour of the inferior ranked American who is capable of beating the top ranked players when they are with their full force. Hence, the Frenchman who will play through the pain will definitely be not a favourite to start the encounter.
Let’s hope that Bartoli recovers in time for the quarter-final clash and gives tough time to the in-form American.
