Marion Bartoli falls to Petra Martic in round two – French Open 2012
Croatian gorgeous professional, Petra Martic, registered one of the biggest upsets of the day by ousting the eighth seed number one French, Marion Bartoli, in the second round of the Roland Garros French Open. She dug deep to three
sets and forced the top ranked French out of the tournament at her home soil. Final scores were 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
The opening set witnessed an early breakpoint for the visitor who sustained the lead until the end; in fact consolidated it with another breakthrough in the seventh game that closed all doors of comeback for the French starlet.
It was definitely a stunning start to the match and pin drop silence was observed in the arena. Bartoli attracted a lot of spectators to the courts but failed to entertain them at all in the opening set. Sudden turnaround in the
proceedings and expectations was not on the schedule of the visitors but that enhanced their concentration to the match; every point was cheered whenever the French was successful.
The reply from the eighth ranked French was not good. She lost a breakpoint in the first game but replied back in the fourth game to level the scores. She continued to hammer the 50th ranked Croatian and bagged another
breakthrough on the trot. She was tested in the final serve hold; saved a couple of breakpoints to enforce the third set into play.
A swap of breakpoints was witnessed early in the final set that clearly depicted a lot of nerves at both ends. However, the pivotal breakpoint was contested in the sixth game when Martic broke serve courtesy a classic winner down
the line. She held serve to love in the following game and stamped her authority.
No sound was heard at the arena and Bartoli sunk down further; was running away with games to win the break back. Finally, she missed a good opportunity to break serve in the last game of the match that rounded off the majestic
triumph for the 21-year-old Croatian.
Petra Martic contests against the 29th seed Spaniard, Anabel Medina Garrigues, in the next round.
