Marion Bartoli just a whisker away to regain the Top-10 rankings – Tennis News
French powerhouse, Marion Bartoli, had a dry season this year but has still managed to remain close to the Top-10 rankings by the end of it. Ironically, she started off the 2012 WTA circuit as the world number 11 and has finished
off the year with the same rankings.
The 28-year-old veteran was rated at number 10 in the WTA Premier Rankings until November but a strong finish from the former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, pushed her out of the elite group. The Dane contender took the
10th spot while Bartoli had to rest on the 11th to conclude the season. However, these both top class players have the narrowest of margins between them at the moment and a decent performance from Bartoli in any of the season-opening
events can propel her to the Top-10 comprehensively.
Wozniacki has 3,765 aggregated ranking points at present, whilst Bartoli is one spot behind her with 3,740 points. A difference of 25 points really doesn’t matter for a player of Bartoli’s calibre and she can bridge it convincingly
any time. She reached her career-best rank of world number seven this year but some inconsistent performances, coupled with niggling injuries and poor form, have taken a huge toll out of her. The French veteran hopes for a better showing in the next season
and hopefully, will regain her position among the elite 10.
Bartoli finished off the 2012 WTA season with 41-25 winning record and utterly failed to bag a single title. She had won a total of 13 WTA championship titles in her career and prize money exceeding seven million dollars. No doubt
her presence on the tennis courts is a great intimidation for a number of top-class players but the aging factor has seemed to be a critical factor in her deterioration of form. She is 28 at the moment and has been labouring hard to keep herself 100 per cent
fit for the competitive battles on the WTA Tour. The Frenchwoman will take off her 2013 campaign from the Brisbane International, competing against most of the top ranked super stars on the hard courts of Australia.
