round – Hansol Korea Open 2011
Number two seeded and wildcard entrant Marion Bartoli got rid of Espanola Nuria Vives Llagostera, in the main draw of the Hansol Korea Open 2011 in Seoul, South Korea on Tuesday, 20th September. After one hour and twenty
three minutes of the match French Bartoli won in straight sets of 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The first round of the initial set was opened by Llagostera and the two players held serve for the first two games. By the third game Bartoli was first to break and took a mini break of 2-1 but it was extremely ephemeral as Llagostera
broke back in the fourth game to even the score at 2-2.
In the fifth game Bartoli again broke Llagostera and as she held her serve in the sixth game, she smashed a backhand winner towards the baseline which Llagostera was unable to return and as she held her serve in the seventh, she
was now leading by two breaks up.
Wanting to completely secure herself Bartoli made Llagostera walk the path of shame as she broke her for the last time during the seventh game at which the score board read as 5-2.
During the eighth game serving for the set, the players battled long and hard but eventually Bartoli served with extreme caution to hold her serve sagaciously. As she won on her serve in the sixth game Bartoli won the initial set
with a comprehensive victory of 6-2.
Bartoli capitalized on a hundred percent of her breakpoints and with almost twice the score of her adversary’s she got the upper hand.
By the second set it was Bartoli’s turn to serve and the two players held their own in the first two games to even the score at 1-1. Neither of the players would let up and held their serves in the next two games to level the score
at 2-2.
Tired of the cat and mouse chase, Bartoli changed her technique to a more assertive style. As she held her service game in the fifth game, she broke her opponent in the sixth game and obtained a mini lead of 4-2.
Bartoli was two breaks up but still felt the need to safeguard her lead and as she won on her serve, she attained her goal. By the end of the seventh game, the scoreboard read as 5-2 and Bartoli was now looking to break her opponent
for the third and last time and as Llagostera double faulted during game point, Bartoli was endorsed with the match.
