Marion Bartoli thrashes Ksenia Pervak in 2nd round – Kremlin Cup 2011
Third seeded French Marion Bartoli flogged unseeded Russian Ksenia Pervak in the second round of the Kremlin Cup 2011. Meeting for the first time, the challengers battled it out on the hard courts of Olympic Stadium in Moscow,
Russia. The third seeded Frenchwoman breezed past the Russian Pervak in straight sets of 6-1, 6-1 after simply one hour and ten minutes on Thursday the 20th of October 2011.
Commencing the initial round of the match was the unseeded Russian, Bartoli and Pervak traded breaks in the first two games of the match to bring the scoreboard to a tie at 1-1. However, Bartoli then shifted into top gear as she
was eager to make it into the yearend Championships. In the third game the third seeded Frenchwoman broke her adversary and then held serve to take a mini lead of 3-1 by the end of the fourth game.
Bartoli was on fire as she repeated the feat and secured her lead at 5-1 on the scoreboard. She was now only a game away from clogging the first set of the match. As she served for the opening set, smashed a beautiful backhand
winner to secure the opening set and was now one up in the match.
Bartoli capitalized on four out of the seven breakpoints and had an amazing return that assisted her in wining 72 percent of her total return points in the set.
Inaugurating the second set of the match was Bartoli, who went on a tear from there as she not only held her serve but also capitalized on a breakpoint in the second game to reel off straight two games against her opponent. She
repeated the feat once more and the scoreboard only saw Bartoli with a lead of 4-0 by the end of the fourth game.
During the fifth game she held her serve and won the first five games of the second set as well. The serve switched and Pervak finally made a return in the sixth game and it was extremely unfortunate for her as this was the only
game she bagged. As Bartoli served for the match in the seventh game, she hit a forehand winner down the line and clogged a breadstick victory of the set and the match.
After winning the match Bartoli said, “Even though it was 6-1, 6-1, in the beginning it was a lot tighter because Ksenia has improved a lot this year. She's working hard. I think she's a really talented player and will go a long
way".
Up next for the third seeded Frenchwoman is Russian Elena Vesnina in the quarterfinal of the Kremlin Cup.
