Marion Bartoli thrashes Shuai Peng in 3rd round – Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011
Seventh seeded Marion Bartoli thrashed number ten seeded Shuai Peng in the third round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011. After just one hour and thirteen minutes on outdoor hard courts of the Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan, the
Frenchwomen hammered the Chinese professional Shuai, winning 6-2, 6-1 on Wednesday the 28th of September.
Opening the first round of the match was the tenth seeded Peng and the two players held serve for the following two games to roll the score board to 1-1. However, in the third game Peng was broken by Bartoli and she edged away
to lead the score with 3-1.
During the following two games the players were able to win on alternate games but Bartoli was now leading with a break and game at 4-2. She then again broke Zakopalova in the next game and was now only a game away from clogging
the opening set. As she held serve in the last game she hacked away the opening set with a 6-2 victory.
Peng again opted to serve to first but she was broken in the very first game by Bartoli and as she held serve in the second game, she again broke Peng for the second time in the third game too reel off with a lead of 3-0.
By the end of the fourth game, Bartoli held serve and by the fifth she was on a roll as she broke Peng for the third time, leading 5-0. Peng tried to make a comeback by breaking Bartoli in the sixth game but it was too late for
that and as Bartoli held serve in the seventh game she hacked away a speedy breadstick victory.
Marion Bartoli lost only one game in the entire set as she was broken by Peng and by smashing sagacious drop shots and winners; she clogged the set with a 6-1 victory. Even though, Bartoli had only managed to hit 35 percent of
her first serves on target, she was able to achieve a walloping 86 percent of her first serve wins.
The Frenchwoman was able to secure a place in the quarterfinal of the event where she will be facing Belarusian Victoria Azarenka.
