Marius Myhre proves too strong for Benjamin Leung in first round clash of Canada Open Grand Prix
Norway’s spirited player Marius Myhre started his journey in an impressive fashion as he tamed his local opponent Benjamin Leung in Men’s Singles first round encounter at the Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 at Richmond, Canada, on Wednesday, July 11.
The in-form Marius, who has been working hard to make his presence felt, showed a tremendous display of top quality badminton and registered a spectacular victory over his Canadian rival in a thrashing manner.
Marius was outstanding in his shot selection and execution as he played with precision and easily crushed Benjamin in straight sets without showing him any mercy in the entire battle.
In contrast, the Canadian could not capitalise the support of his home fans as he could not match the speed and aggression of his Norwegian opponent and bowed down to him without showing his brilliance.
From the opening points of first game, Marius was in full swing as he played aggressive badminton and did not squander any time in building an early gap on the score board.
The aggressive Marius was quick in all areas and he played attacking badminton against his confused local challenger and took an amazing lead of 11-3 until the break.
After the interval, Marius remained on track as he played with tremendous control and did not leave any room for his rival to make a comeback in the game.
The lofty Norwegian shuttler maintained his upper hand in the first game and ended it up with a phenomenal 21-8 score on the board.
In the second game, the situation was not much different as Marius again took an early lead without facing tough resistance from his Canadian opponent.
Marius remained calm and composed on court and managed to set up an 11-8 lead until the end of first half.
After the one-minute interval, Marius did not lose his focus and also maintained pressure on his challenger by playing fast and controlled badminton and eventually grabbed the set with a one-sided score of 21-13.
