Mark Allen believes referee missed a blatant push in his match against Cao Yupeng
Winner of the 2012 Haikou World Open, Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen has crashed out of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the hands of a rookie Chinese potter, Cao Yupeng by the score line of 10-6. Allen was about to clinch the 16th frame
when he was trailing 9-6 but bad luck hit the Antrim cueman and he potted the cue ball after sending the black ball in the corner pocket.
After losing his place in the Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, Allen accused the Chinese potter for a blatant push in the middle of the match. He believes that the referee, Paul Collier was not able to see that push. He also said that the
behaviour of the Chinese cueist which he said was disgusted. The 26-year-old made criticism about the sportsmanship of Yupeng.
While speaking to the media after his match, Allen said, “I thought the big turning point in the match was at 5-4 when he was in the balls and Paul Collier, the referee, missed a blatant push. It was quite obvious to me and anyone who was watching at home
would have been able to see it.”
He added, “It seems to be a bit of a trait for the Chinese players because there've been instances in the past, of fouls and blatant cheating going on. It needs to be corrected. He's a good enough player and he doesn't have to do that.”
On the other hand, Yupeng denied any action of the sort after the match. He said that he was jus focusing on his game and did not realised if he had done any foul. Yupeng played outstandingly in the first round of the event and totally unsettled the experienced
Allen.
Yupeng has started a brilliant run in his Championship debut and is looking forward to make an appearance in the upcoming stages of the event. Meanwhile, Allen was quite disappointed over his performance in the match because he was aiming to hit the final
stages of the competition. It will be interesting to see how Allen handles this latest issue with the referee.
