Mark Allen disappointed at John Higgins and Ronnie O’Sullivan absence in 2012 Wuxi Classic
Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen has successfully made his way into the second round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament at the Wuxi Sports Center in Wuxi, China after beating the Chinese Wild Card winner, Rouzi Maimaiti by the score line of 5-1 in
the opening round. He will be facing the former two-time World Snooker Champion Mark Williams or Tom Ford in the second round.
While speaking to World Snooker, Allen said, “I don't mind which of the two I play, either Mark Williams or Tom Ford. If I play well I'd expect to beat either player but at the same time if I play bad then that chances are that whoever gets through will
win. I'm just happy to be in the next round.”
Allen was 0-1 down at the end of the first frame but after that the Pistol sprang back brilliantly to claim five consecutive frames to hit the victory by 5-1.
This year’s Wuxi classic has commenced without two big guns of snooker, the former four-time World Snooker Championship winner from Scotland, John Higgins and the reigning World Snooker Champion from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan. The Northern Irishman, Allen
and definitely the Chinese snooker fans are missing them because the event will be more thrilling with their presence in the line-up.
Allen expressed his feelings, “It's disappointing that John and Ronnie didn't come here but obviously I haven't entered Australia so I can't really complain about them.”
The Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan is not taking part in this snooker season because he opposed the increase of snooker events in a calendar and refused to sign the contract with the snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association
(WPBSA). Later on, he stated that he will take part in the 2012 Shanghai Masters, not before that.
However, event to participate in the 2012 Shanghai Masters, O’Sullivan must sign the contract first because it has been made compulsory by the WPBSA. On the other hand, the Essex Exocet believes that the contract cannot be signed because it is too restrictive
for him. It will be interesting to see if O’Sullivan signs the contract and begins to participate in some of the new tournaments for this season.
