Mark Allen ecstatic after beating Mark Selby in semis of 2012 World Open
Runner up in the 2011 UK Championship, Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen made his way into the final encounter of the 2012 World Open snooker tournament at the Haikou Stadium arena in the Hainan Island after beating the World Number one Mark Selby by the score
line of 6-5.
Before its start, the match was being predicted to be the toughest of the event because both potters were on top of their form during the contest grabbing easy wins on their campaign. The pair was impressive at the baize in the first session but at the end
of Session 2, Selby was leading the clash by the scores 5-2 where it seemed too difficult for Allen to get back.
However, the Antrim potter showed his class and bounced back into the game with some tremendous snooker genius and cleared the table in the next four frames to hit the victory by 6-5.
The Jester from Leicester, Selby, had no chance to stop Allen’s run and totally got unnerved in the final session where Allen dominated the game to take the semi-final glory to breeze into the final match of the event.
Speaking to the World Snooker after his victory, Allen expressed his joy, “It's very, very good to get through as any win against Mark Selby is a good win but to come from 5-2 behind is even better and the way I played in the last four frames would be worthy
of winning any match. Hopefully I can now go on and win the tournament as to have played like that and not go on and win would be very disappointing.”
The Pistol added, “The conditions out there were still quite tricky and warm but it was much, much better than previously and if the conditions are like that tomorrow and I play the way I did today I've got a good chance.”
The conditions inside the arena were still a bit tricky because of the moist on the surface if the baize. However, the Antrim potter did not lose his focus in the third session and came back strongly to get the semi-final win. Allen has now successfully
made his way into the final where he will be meeting England’s Stephen Lee.
