Mark Allen happy after beating Stephen Lee in 2012 World Open final – Snooker news
Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen, who reached the final of 2011 UK Championship, had a tremendous final match of 2012 World Open snooker tournament where he defeated his opponent, England’s Stephen Lee, by an stunning score line of 10-1.
The 26-year-old Allen is quite happy after winning his first major ranking title. He was very hopeful of winning his first title when he made his way into the final of 2011 UK Championship but unfortunately he tumbled down against Judd Trump and was not
able to make his dream come true.
However, he entered the 2012 World Open snooker event with the hopes to claim the title and in the end he achieved his goal. Lee, on the other hand, failed to improvise according to the situation and lost the final match easily. The Antrim potter, Allen,
is now overjoyed with his success in the tournament.
Speaking to the World Snooker after his match, Allen said, “I played pretty well today. I started out well and put Stephen under pressure. I think when I was 4-0 up he knew he had to play pretty much flawless for the rest of the match. He showed in the last
few months how well he's playing and that he's nearly back to his best.”
The World Number seven added, “It's hard to imagine that you're going to win so comfortably, it can be difficult when you do have a lead as it can be hard to keep concentration. But I think I did that pretty well today and didn't give Stephen a chance to
get back in the game and I closed the match out very well.”
The first session of the match was totally Allen-show a*s the Northern Irishman cruised into four round victories by the score line of 66-55, 104-0, 59-26, 127-7 firing three classy knocks of 104, 50 and 127. The Trowbridge potter, Lee, was able to clinch
a frame in the second session but after that he dropped down completely and Allen stole the show with five consecutive frame wins.
