Mark Allen joins Mark Williams and Ding Junhui in WPBSA fined players’ list – Snooker News
Snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has made some noticeable decision following some offensive remarks by the professional potters. The cuemen were fined by the body at once after they were found guilty.
The potters who made those negative remarks include the former two-time World Snooker Championship winner, Mark Williams, 2012 Welsh Open winner Ding Junhui and recently the 2012 Haikou World Open snooker event winner, Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen has also
joined the club.
The first two potters made negative remarks about the World Snooker Championship venue, the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield and the spectators present there while Allen accused all Chinese potters as being cheats. The Northern Irishman made these comments
after losing his first round match of the 2012 World Snooker Championship against China’s Cao Yupeng.
Allen blamed the Chinese cueman that he made a blatant push during his break in Frame 10 in the opening round game of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. Allen lost the game by the score line of 10-6 after he potted the striker ball firing his winning shot
on the final black. Regarding the remarks, the WPBSA found that the Northern Irishman violated following rules:
1.1 Members shall, at all times (i.e. whether at a Tournament or not), behave in a proper and correct manner consistent with their status as professional sportsmen. Members shall not do anything which is likely to intimidate, offend, insult, humiliate or
discriminate against any other person on the grounds of disability, their religion, race, colour or national or ethnic origin, s*x or sexual orientation.
1.2 A Member shall not make or cause to be made any statement or commit or cause to be committed any act which in the reasonable view of the WPBSA is likely to bring into disrepute the games of snooker and/or billiards.
Mark Allen has been fined £10,000 along with £1,000 as the cost of hearing. The 2012 Haikou World Open winner has also been suspended from the game for three months along with a warning of severe action if the same thing happens again from his side. The
WPBSA stated that Allen’s behaviour was unacceptable and will not be tolerated in future.
