Mark Boucher aiming for national team recall – Cricket News Update

South African wicket-keeper, Mark Boucher, is aiming to make a comeback in the national team, stating that he still feels confident in his abilities to perform at the International level.

“…I still feel I'm good enough to be there, and I still want to be there, I'm passionate enough to want to play for my country,” he said.

The player last played a Limited overs match in 2010, which consequently led to his omission from the ICC World Cup 2011. However, the Proteas lived up to their 'chokers' tag as they exited the competition prematurely, despite boasting a great lineup.

The 34-year-old currently is playing for the Warriors in the Champions League T20. The side won its first match against the Indian Premier League outfit, Royal Challengers Bangalore.

With the promotion of AB De Villiers as the leader of the Proteas, it remains to be seen whether he continues his role as the wicket-keeper of the team; if not, then Boucher would be the perfect replacement.

However, apart from Boucher, there are several young names in contention for the wicketkeeping spot, but the veteran feels it’s best to remain positive.

“….So I don't want to look too far behind me, I'd rather look in front. Yeah, there have been a couple of names mentioned - Daryn Smit, Heino Kuhn, Thami Tsolekile - but ultimately if you want to play for your country, you got to be a lot better than the
rest."

The Proteas, like many other nations have spent a good amount of time on re-structuring their system, having installed former opener, Gary Kirsten as their head coach ( Kirsten led India to World Cup triumph 2011), and bringing in the likes of Allan Donald
to supplement the staff.

A six-month break for the African side will end with the team touring Down Under to play Australia. Boucher will be hoping that a good Champions League T20 campaign will help his cause for a recall in a team and more importantly, to get his confidence back.
