Mark Buehrle shines as Chicago White Sox beat Minnesota Twins 3-0 – MLB Update
The Chicago White Sox continued to impress late in the season as they blanked the Minnesota Twins 3-0 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Monday, August 29 to take a crucial 1-0 lead in the three-game series.
Mark Buehrle showed his arm strength and variety as he pitched into the eighth inning to win his 11th game of the season. He threw 109 pitches in 7.2 innings amid just four hits to improve his earned-run average to 3.05 for the season. Buehrle
sided with accuracy in his spell and as a result managed 73 strikes out of his total tally of pitches including four strike-outs. His win-loss record is now stands resolute at 11-6 for the season.
The White Sox batters got a good opportunity to free their arms against a mediocre pitching staff and they rightly availed it. The batters produced hits regularly and compiled three runs in the process to give Chicago a healthy margin above the .500 winning
percentage.
Kevin Slowey was a disappointment for the Twins yet again as he lost his third start for Minnesota without grabbing a single victory up till now. He showed good strength in throwing 90 pitches over seven innings but lack of accuracy was the prime cause of
his shallow performance. Slowey’s earned-run average soared to 5.91 after this lack-lustre performance and he would want to work hard on this area if better results are to be achieved next season.
Tyler Flowers was the most productive batter in Chicago’s line-up as he crafted two RBIs, one each in the second and the seventh inning, to give White Sox an added advantage. His sacrifice fly towards centre-field allowed Alejandro De Aza to add the first
run for Chicago in the second inning before a powerful hit towards centre-field earned him a double and enabled Dayan Viciedo to double the lead for the White Sox.
Alexei Ramirez then hammered the final nail on the coffin when he added the third run for the White Sox in the eighth inning for a three-run lead that was never to be chased by the Twins.
Chicago’s relievers were up to the task as Jesse Crain held his 17th game after a short spell on the mound before Sergio Santos pitched in a perfect closer to save his 27th game.
