Mark Buehrle’s pitching helps Chicago White Sox beat Cleveland Indians 8-4 - MLB Update
Chicago White Sox’ starter, Mark Buehrle had a remarkable day with the ball as he pitched six innings and struck-out two batters with an ERA of 3.72 in the White Sox’ 8-4 win against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field, Cleveland on September 21.
First four innings went the pitcher’s way as they threw the ball in perfect line to restrict the batters from taking runs. Alexei Ramirez and A.J. Pierzynski both flied out while Alejandro De Aza struck-out swinging in the first inning. Similarly, Indians’
designated hitter Travis Hafner walked at the bottom of second inning but Lonnie Chisenhall and Lou Marson both ground out without adding any run for their team.
White Sox third baseman Brent Morel and Gordon Beckham both struck-out while Tyler Flowers ground out at the top of the third. Indians’ batters also looked immobilised during the fourth inning as Carlos Santana flied out, Hafner lined out and Shelley Duncan
ground out without scoring runs.
In the fifth inning, White Sox added one run to get a convincing 1-0 lead. Flowers doubled to deep right-field and Dayan Viciedo posted the first run for White Sox. Hafner struck a two-run homer towards right-field and Santana contributed the leading run
for Indians to give them a 2-1 lead at the bottom of the sixth inning.
White Sox went ahead 4-2 by scoring three runs in the seventh inning. Viciedo scored one run when Morel hit a double-run drive towards deep centre-field. Morel and Beckham posted two collective runs for Chicago when De Aza drove a single-run shot to centre-field.
Later on, De Aza was thrown out to second base.
During the eighth, White Sox added four runs to their score-card while Indians were able to score two runs and reduced their lead 8-4. Ramirez hit a solo homer towards centre-field while Alex Rios and Morel both homered to left-centre. The fourth run was
taken by Juan Pierre to give a solid potential to the White Sox.
On the other hand, Jason Kipnis hit a sacrifice fly to right-field and Crowe scored one run. The final run for the Indians was taken by Kosuke Fukudome when Santana bunted a single-run drive to left-centre.
As a result, White Sox were on top with a 2-1 lead in the four-game series against the Indians at Cleveland.
