Mark Casse trained Golden History has a big race to run in the Grade 2 Golden Rod
John C Oxley’s 2-year-old filly, Golden History, is all set to show her talent in the Churchill Downs’ Stars of Tomorrow II racing program and the Kentucky bred will sent to compete in the Grade 2, $150,000 – added Golden Rod for 2-year-old fillies on 26
November, 2011.
Mark E. Casse trained daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, out of mare User History, Golden History turned in a five furlong bullet work on 14 November, 2011, ahead of the Golden Rod Stakes and it was a sharp training move which changed the mood in the barn of trainer
Mark Casse on a dreary morning.
“She worked great and went over the track really well,” assistant trainer
Norman Casse said. “We’re still thinking that she’s going to run a big race in what will be just her third start in the Golden Rod. She’s trained well since her last race and she should be right there.”
Golden History went about her business as she zipped five furlongs in 1 minute and 0.40 seconds, under her exercise rider Melanie Giddings. The pair produced a move which turned out to be the fastest of 24 moves over the same distance.
Golden History kicked off her career in a seven furlong long maiden special weight race under L Contreras at Woodbine on 2 October, 2011, as she managed to break her maiden in her first attempt by defeating Dolce Lemone in second place and Holy Wine in third,
while she covered the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 24.74 seconds.
Off that victory, Golden History was pointed toward the Grade 2 $150,000 Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs on Stars of Tomorrow I program.
She was sent at the odds of 18 to 1 under jockey S Bridgmohan over at a mile on 30 October, 2011, on dirt but she finished off the board in fifth position to winner On Fire Baby.
“I think she needed a start over the dirt and she probably didn’t get a whole lot out of her first race,” Casse said. “It was also asking a lot of her to run in the Pocahontas in just her second start”.
