Mark Cavendish delighted with Team Sky’s performance at the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne
Mark Cavendish is content with his team’s performance and why not, the British team had a terrific start to its 2012 season.
The World Champion claimed the 11th victory for the side after his splendid performance at the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne 2012.
He finished the race in the quickest time of 4 hours, 27 minutes and 30 seconds while Yauheni Hutarovich, Kenny Robert Van Hummel, Arnaud Demare and Alexander Serebryakov secured the next four spots in the race.
Mark shared his views after crossing the finish-line, “After the cobbles I told CJ that I didn’t feel so good. Once we took control it got better although I was still vomiting. It’s incredible”.
He further added, “I don’t know if I can take any credit for this win. The whole day they looked after me. I was never in the win and always in the front of the peloton. It’s a great win”.
The British team signed as many as eight new cyclists in its squad for the new season, including two neo-pros, Salvatore Puccio and Luke Rowe, for the 2012 season.
David Brailsford signed Sergio Henao from Team Gobernación de Antioquia-Indeportes Antioquia and Richie Porte From Team Saxo Bank to strengthen the squad for the new season.
Team Sky hired four HTC-Highroad, namely, Mark Cavendish, Bernhard Eisel, Kanstantsin Sivtsov and Danny Pate.
The team started its 2012 season at the Santos Tour Down Under and Edvald Boasson Hagen helped the side with the victory at the Sprints classifications.
It also claimed two stages at the Tour of Qatar, three stages and an overall victory, Points classifications and Teams classifications at the Volta ao Algarve 2012
Mark appreciated his team's performance during the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne.
"I was always in the top ten going into every climb and didn't have to look at the wind. A group went and we had three guys in the front so we were secure," he said.
Cavendish also briefed that the team struggled during the Tour of Oman but the cyclists really worked as a unit during the Belgian race.
The cyclist is optimistic to continue his season with the British team. He is eyeing the Grand Tours, World Championships and the London Olympics in the season ahead.
