Mark Cavendish favourite for London Test Olympics – Cycling News
Olympics test event is scheduled in London on Sunday as several teams from across the globe will participate in the event. The 28-year-old English cyclist Daniel Fleeman suggests Mark Cavendish will win the Olympics test event.
Fleeman believes that Cavendish will not face any serious problems in winning the event as he has pretty strong climbing skills and the only difficulty that he might face is that it will not be easy to control five men team.
He further added that, “People think in this country that Cavendish cannot climb but he can climb pretty well.” He stated that if Cavendish makes it till the final bunch than he will not have any problems to win the test event.
Fleeman told a well known cycling website about his inclusion in the Olympics test event, “It’s something quite special to say you’ve been part of. Obviously to be able to preview the Olympic course in your own country, not everyone is going to get that
opportunity, so I’m looking forward to it.”
The 28-year-old shared his experience of the track as he stated that he went training with his fellow cyclist, Daniel Lloyd a few times and had to stop at the top which will not be the case in the Olympics test event as cyclists only have to go across two
times but it will be tougher during the 2012 London Olympics as cyclists will have to go across nine times.
National teams from Great Britain, Australia, Italy, Germany and France will participate in the event that is also called as the dress rehearsal for 2012 London Olympics. Although it is a warm up race with shorter distance but with the world best riders
participating in the race it will be same as a Pro Tour race with most of the cyclists returning from Tour de France. The riders still maintain their high level of competitiveness to prove their dominance to the others during the event.
Fleeman has been with Raleigh and has also been part of Cervelo Test Team in 2009 and is hopeful to put up a good performance this year.
