Mark Cavendish goes Green in the Tour de France – Cycling News
Mark Cavendish is the first Briton to win the green jersey in the Tour de France as he came up with a much polished and a better cyclist in this year’s Tour.
He has seen some hard time but finally the last stage of Tour de France has been one of the best days in his life as he said, “I am super happy, it did not come easy.” He was sharing his feelings on winning the green jersey. Cavendish had been unlucky previously
as he has missed out on the point’s classification in previous years but he came back strong this year.
“The rules had changed this year, I had to work even harder,” he said.
Cavendish commented that it is a team win as he was motivated by his team-mates and whenever he was tired and down his team was always there and worked hard with him. Cavendish has beaten Edvald Boassen-Hagen and Andre Greipel as he achieved a total of 20
stage wins in four tours.
In terms of total stage wins Cavendish is ranked sixth as he levels it with 1927-1928 winner Nicolas Frantz of Luxembourg and is also the most successful sprinter of all time.
Winning the green jersey was his dream right from the start and he finally managed to get it during his fourth Tour.
He expressed his joy as he pulled out the jersey after crossing the finish line.
Cavendish said, “As I have said in years, the only way to win the green jersey is to win the most stages. That’s why they changed the rules.”
The 26-year-old still has a huge career in front of him and he already has 20 stage wins in his bag and that positions him at Number five on all time lists for Tour de France. Sprinters reach their peak at the age of 30 so there is no reason why he should
not be dominating the cycling world in the years to come.
He stated that he will come back and show his consistency at the Tour de France as he enjoys winning here more than anything else in the world.
