Mark Cavendish sign a three-year deal with Omega Pharma-Quick Step
The question of Mark Cavendish’s future has finally been resolved as announced by Sky Sports News and also confirmed by Team Sky on their website.
"It's been an incredibly fun year riding with friends I've grown up with but I'm super excited about riding with old friends and teammates in one of the most successful and established teams in cycling,” Cavendish noted.
“I believe in the team's project and I’m thrilled to be a part of it."
"Mark has been a true champion for Team Sky this year,” Brailsford noted
“It’s been an honour having the rainbow jersey in this team and great to work so closely with a rider I’ve known since he was a junior”.
“He has been a real team player, making history in a Tour de France winning team".
The negotiations between the cyclist and Team Director, David Brailsford started after the Tour de France 2012.
The team was focussed towards an overall victory at the French Grand Tour and could not give enough support to the Manxman.
Bradley Wiggins was leading the British team at the race with Christopher Froome as the second leader, as the duo succeeded in fulfilling the team’s dream.
Wiggins claimed the first overall position after the Tour de France 2012 final general classification and became part of the history books.
Christopher Froome claimed the second overall position and David Brailsford succeeded in achieving his goals.
However, the hustle of an overall victory cost Mark Cavendish his green jersey as he failed to claim enough UCI points to retain it.
He could only secure 220 UCI points during the race, falling 201 points behind the new green jersey winner, Peter Sagan.
The 27-year-old signed a three-year deal with Team Sky in 2012 and is still under contract with the British outfit for two more seasons.
However, he has successfully negotiated himself out of the contract and is positive to continue his peak form with Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step for the coming season.
The former Team Sky cyclist enjoyed a perfect 2012 season with several top performances to his credit.
He won two stages of the Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, Tour of Qatar, two stages of Tirreno – Adriatico and three during the first Grand Tour race of the season, the Giro d'Italia 2012.
Mark also claimed the first overall victory of his career at the Ster ZLM Tour along with three stages of the Tour de France, one stage of the Tour of Denmark and three stages in the Tour of Britain to wrap a perfect 2012 season for him and the team.
