Mark Cavendish to change his team as he might leave HTC-Highroad – Cycling News
Mark Cavendish is at the end of his contract with HTC-Highroad as has stated that he has made the decision to change his team but will not announce the name now.
Cavendish who has won 20 stages in the previous four Tour de France tournaments and was a green jersey winner in the 2011 Tour has received an offer to join Team Sky.
Mark is currently with HTC-Highroad and has been invited by the Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas to join Team Sky. Thomas told the media about Cavendish as he said, “It would be great to have him in the team. He is the fastest man in the world and to have him
leading us would be great.”
Geraint further added that Cavendish’s addition to the team will be ideal as he is at the end of his contract with HTC-Highroad and this is probably the best time for him to join the team. He added that Cavendish is a very good friend of his and has worked
with him before as he said, “He is a good mate of mine; we worked together at the academy. He would be a good guy to have around the team.”
Cavendish on the other hand, has made the decision about his new team and will be announcing it in public in the coming weeks as he said, “I’m in a lucky position that nationality of the team doesn’t matter to me. I get the same money whichever team I go
with.”
Thomas recently has been a part of a charity race as he has ridden from Cardiff to Denbigh for 170 kilometres and will be seen in action next week in Holland and Belgium followed by the World Champions in September.
He is not sure if he can participate in the Tour de France and the Olympics both next year as he mentioned that the opportunity to ride in London Olympics might not come again in his career. The chances of winning a gold medal in front of the home crowd
are pretty good while the Tour de France is every year.
