Mark Cavendish wins the final stage of the Danmark Rundt 2012
Mark Cavendish wins the final stage of the Danmark Rundt and filled his bag with yet another victory to mark a perfect 2012 season.
He rode brilliantly to restrict Matteo Pelucchi of Team Europcar and Andre Greipel of Team Lotto Belisol for the second and the third positions respectively.
“The team controlled the race the whole way,” Cavendish said.
“The lads had great faith in me and delivered me to the line perfect. I’m really happy to get the win and repay their hard work, especially as I haven’t been in the best form recently”.
“I won here in 2007 as well as winning the rainbow jersey in Denmark and it’s great to come back here and win here again”.
Mark is having a terrific season and has already helped his side with numerous performances in the current season.
He bagged stages at the Tour of Qatar, the Tirreno-Adriatico, the Giro d’Italia, Ster ZLM Toer and the Tour de France 2012.
The Manxman secured the first overall victory of his career after he won the final general classifications at the Ster ZLM Toer earlier this year.
Andrew Fenn of Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep and Alexander Kristoff of Team Katusha occupied the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Kristian Haugaard of Team Denmark and Sebastian Lander of Team Glud & Mustrand-LRO succeeded at the first and the second sprints of the race.
Michael Morkov wins the opening climb of the event whereas Sebastian Lander succeeded at the second and the third climbs of the stage.
Andrew Fenn of Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep, Tom Van Asbroeck of Team Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator, Casper Degn Larsen of Team Water Cycling, Luke Rowe of Team Sky and Wilco Kelderman were the top five young riders on the day.
Lieuwe Westra of Team Vacansoleil-DCM secured an overall victory after his heroic performance during the six-day race.
Ramunas Navardauskas of Team Garmin-Sharp fell ten seconds short and secured the second spot while Manuele Boaro of Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank, Alexander Kristoff of Team Katusha and Damien Gaudin of Team Europcar occupying the third, the fourth and the
fifth positions in the respective order.
