Mark Cavendish’s arrival will make Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step even more balanced, Team Manager Patrick Lefevere
Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step General Manager Patrick Lefevere has secured one of the most important transfer deals of the season, which is of Mark Cavendish.
The cyclist negotiated himself out of the contract with Team Sky and has now joined the Belgian outfit for three years.
Lefevere welcomes the new arrival in the side and noted that his inclusion will definitely make the team even more balanced for the new season.
"Mark is the best sprinter in the world and one of the all time best sprinters ever,” Patrick cited.
“With his arrival, the team will be even more balanced and it will be enriched with another top rider”.
He briefed that Mark can certainly strengthen the team’s sprint department and will blend in nicely with Tony Martin and Tom Boonen for the Northern Classic races.
“Mark will also find a time-tested technical staff on the team, as well as high caliber athletes eager to work with him to reach new, grand goals together".
"In addition to raising the technical bar for the team, his arrival will broaden our international profile and team image”.
“Mark is an important player in the gradual growing process in which the team has invested,” he concluded.
The Manxman signed a three-year deal with Team Sparkasse in 2005 and stayed with the side by the end of 2006 season.
He moved to Team T-Mobile in 2006 and spent the maximum number of six years with the team but had to find a new home after the American outfit announced its departure in 2011.
Cavendish signed a three-year deal with the British side, Team Sky in 2012 and is still under contract with the team by the end of 2014 season.
However, the lack of support during the Tour de France has made him alter the plans and he decided to switch to a different team for the remaining seasons.
Team Sky General Manager David Brailsford tried his best, but could not retain the 2011 UCI Road World Champion as he switched to Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step for 2013-15 seasons.
Mark is a true race winner and his exclusion can really prove costly for the British side and setting him free is definitely a bitter pill that Brailsford had to swallow.
