Mark Cavendish’s exit from Team Sky confirmed
The news of Mark Cavendish leaving Team Sky at the end of 2012 has been confirmed by a Norwegian website, Procycling.no.
The website claims that “a source close to Team Sky” has confirmed that the Manxman will indeed end his associations with the British team by the end of this season.
The cyclist marked his professional debut with Team Sparkasse in 2005 and stayed with the team for a period of two years.
Most of his stay has been with Team T-Mobile, which he joined in 2006 and devoted as many as six years of his professional career with the team.
Team T-Mobile announced its demise by the end of 2011 season due to financial constraints and Cavendish had to find a new home to continue his professional pursuit.
He was approached by the British side, Team Sky in 2012 and the cyclist accepted to ride with the team throughout 2012 season.
The 27-year-old has filled his bag with several victories in the first half of the season and he falls in a league of cyclists who does not really have to search for a team.
Numerous professional cycling outfits have already shown interest in signing Mark for the season ahead but the name of his future team is still under the curtains.
Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep General Manager Patrick Lefevere briefed about his team’s interest towards signing the Manxman.
"There haven't been any negotiations either because first what I want to see is that there's an agreement from Brailsford that Mark can leave the team”.
“After that we can negotiate but now it's difficult because even if a rider wants to leave a team you need three parties to agree”.
"I saw some things in the papers about Brailsford talking about it being an option but I don't know it was official or not. Either way, I don't know. It's up to Brailsford and Cavendish. If they agree that he can go and there's a document, then we're okay".
As reported by Procycling.no, the problems between Mark and the team started during the Tour de France 2012.
The whole team was busy helping Bradley Wiggins and Christopher Froome for an overall victory which left Cavendish with no help at all to defend his point’s jersey that he earned in the 2011 version of the Tour de France.
