Mark Cuban's prophecy comes true - NBA Special
At the beginning of the season, one man predicted that the Dallas Mavericks would have a great opportunity at the NBA World Championship this year. His reasoning was that with the depth at their disposal, the Mavs held an advantage
over almost all other teams in the NBA.
Time has proven that to be quite an accurate prediction. So who was this man, surely someone brimming with wisdom and farsightedness? It was none other than.. urm.. Mark Cuban.
Yes, the eccentric, outspoken owner of the Dallas Mavericks saw it coming. He said this would happen, and as the Mavs disposed off team after team in the post season, slowly but surely now, his words have been proven correct. Mark
Cuban indeed was right.
At the beginning of the season, Cuban added pieces to his roster and declared that this team would give anyone a run for their money. What the Mavs represented was one elite player, Dirk Nowitzki, running out of time and a whole
roster stuffed with good players past their prime, or not in it yet.
The exact prophetic words of Mark Cuban are,
“This is a really, really special opportunity for us. We’re going to have the deepest team in the NBA by far. I think our second unit, J.J. (Barea), Jet, and probably Shawn Marion or Caron Butler switching back and forth with the
second unit with rookie Dominique Jones playing the three, Tyson Chandler playing the four and Brendan (Haywood) or Ian (Mahini) playing the five.”
However, conventional analysts said that all the depth of Dallas would come to nothing in the playoffs. The reasoning was that in the post season the rotations become much shorter and it is the star players that do all the work.
Dallas simply didn’t have many of those.
The Mavs however have proved that theory wrong. Their one star player, Dirk Nowitzki, has been outstanding, and he has been wonderfully complemented by the raft of good players around him. Every game some guy or the other steps
up to make big plays and turn the tide. Their freshness and their options continue to give Dallas the advantage game after game.
Again, Mark Cuban said this would happen,
“Our second unit could beat a lot of first units. We’re going to have so much depth that it’s really going to give us an advantage this year. All our guys are coming in with one focus only and that’s to win a championship. That’s
the goal. ”
The Mavs have now accomplished the goal. After clinically rolling over the star studded Miami Heat, the Larry O’ Brien Trophy, the champion ship ring and the glory is all theirs now. It’s time to celebrate now.
However, looking back at the post season, the uncharacteristic calm, poise and quietness of the Mavs owner made headlines. Perhaps he did not need to talk because he had said everything earlier. And one thing is for sure - Mark
Cuban was right.
