Mark Cuban not interested in buying Atlanta Braves – MLB Update
The Atlanta Braves had a rough time towards the end of this past season and now have a lot to do during the offseason, including a settlement of the ownership issue. The current owners, Liberty Media, are under contract to retain ownership until December
11, 2011, but there is no signal as yet on whether they want to extend their ownership contract.
There are rumours that billionaire Mark Cuban might be interested in making an offer for the struggling ballclub, but the owner of Mavericks in NBA has played down on these rumours and has stressed that he does not intend to buy the ballclub. Earlier in
the offseason, Cuban showed interest in buying the Los Angeles Dodgers, but the 1-billion-dollar price tag was adjudged to be highly inflated by the 53-year-old tycoon.
Cuban made an attempt to buy the Texas Rangers in 2010, but lost the bidding war for the bankrupt team. It was Nolan Ryan who then took charge of the bankrupt-Rangers and helped them resurface in the Majors. This year, the Rangers qualified for the World
Series for the second time running, but replicated the result they had achieved last year.
Even before making an offer for the Rangers, Cuban expressed his desire of taking over the Chicago Cubs in 2009, but there was no positive outcome back then. Here, there is an indication by fans of historically rich Atlanta Braves that Cuban should buy the
franchise.
A poll was conducted recently which asked fans if they would like to see Cuban try to buy the Braves. Of the 8000 respondents, 95-percent confirmed their desire of seeing the entrepreneur taking over the franchise as early as the end of this year.
Cuban was overwhelmed by the response, but stressed that he is not ready to pursue this franchise. He added that he respects the history and tradition of Atlanta, but the Braves are not exactly the type of ballclub he wished to add to his list of ventures.
The icon continued that he likes franchises that need a lot of help and the Mavericks are one example of how he intends to lose millions of dollars to convert a struggling team into a champion that the Mavericks are.
