Mark Cuban takes a dig at the Los Angeles Lakers fan base – NBA Update
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is savvy – period.
The man is the most famous NBA owner and his trademark is undoubtedly the penchant of expressing his views freely - and, taking a dig at the Los Angeles Lakers.
Cuban hates the Lakers, and only in the recent past, has taken many digs at them. When the team which just beat his Mavericks 115-89, acquired the legendary point guard Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, the best centre in the league,
during the summer, Cuban brushed off the potential impact by raising the chemistry issue.
Weeks later, when the Mavs and the Lakers took on each other in the season opener, he let the Lakers know exactly what he wanted them to do;
"I don't know, I don't care, I just hope they suck.”
And then when the Hollywood franchise hastily fired their head coach Mike Brown after a 1-4 start to the season, Cuban hoped it to be a one of many huge mistakes to come. That is just for this year. In the past, Cuban has had war
of word with the likes of Shaquille O’Neal and Phil Jackson, and rest assured he will have plenty of sparring partners from the Lakerland in future.
For now though, Cuban is content on taking a dig at the Lakers fan base;
"I've said enough about the Lakers," Cuban said with a grin while working out on an elliptical machine. "Let's just say that when you say something bad about the Lakers, you get a ton of Twitter threats, so it's just not worth
it. There is just more Twitter courage in Southern California than probably any other part of the world."
He was however quick to pacify the situation with a following tweet;
"I'm not suggesting it's all Lakers fans. It's just most."
The Lakers have perhaps got the biggest, and arguably the most passionate, fan base in the whole of NBA. These fans have been used to winning for a long time, and do not take it lightly when the team loses. It was only last post
season when Steve Blake and his wife got death threats on Twitter after the point guard missed a game winning three against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round playoff series. That was followed by a threat to Mike Brown’s son this month hours before
the coach was axed.
These tweets have been widely condemned, but cannot deny the reality, one which has again been brought into the spotlight by Cuban.
