Mark Davies moves to Kent County Cricket Club – Cricket News Update
Former Durham seamer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Davies-c74586, on Wednesday signed a one-year deal with the Kent County Cricket Club, making him available to the county for the complete 2012 season, starting next month.
The signing ends Davies’ long associations with Riverside Ground. The 31-year-old right-arm medium pacer had joined Durham CCC back in 1997 and made his debut for the county in 2002.
During his more than a decade long stay at Riverside Ground, Davies had several impressive seasons. He claimed 50 first-class wickets during the 2004 season and returned with 49 scalps the next. He was also part of the formidable
pace attack that steered the club to their first County Championship title in 2008.
The lanky Durham pacer was then called into England’s Test squad during the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 tour in 2009 but he failed to get a game during the itinerary and was subsequently sidelined by some recurring injury, including an ankle and
a back injury. The back injury kept him out of action for a major part of the 2006 season, while he missed much of 2010-11 season due to a troublesome ankle.
The chief executive officer of Durham, David Harker, praised Davies’ contribution to the county during his decade long stay at Riverside and wished him good luck for his future endeavours.
"We are really pleased that Mark's trial with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 was successful, in that he will now get the opportunity he deserves to play 1st XI cricket," said David Harker while speaking to the media reporters after Davies finalized his deal
with Kent.
“Mark has been a great ambassador for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782, on and off the field, and we wish him the very best," he added further.
Davies also said that he was leaving his previous county with a heavy heart, however, he did add that this was high time for him to move on.
"Being part of Durham CCC for the past 15 years, coming through the academy and into the senior squad, has been a major part of my life and obviously I am sad to leave," said the 31-year-old Co Durham seam bowler. "But, the time
was right to set myself a new challenge and I'm excited about what the future holds at Kent," he added further.
