Mark Davis, Steve Davis and Peter Ebdon book 2012 Shanghai Masters place – Snooker Update
Final round matches of 2012 Shanghai Masters snooker event qualifying session finished successfully at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield featuring 16 qualifiers who will take on the Top 16 potters in the initial round of the tournament. The potters
gave their best in the qualifying session and booked their place in the opening round.
Former six-time World Snooker Championship winner, England’s Steve Davis, former World Snooker Championship winner Peter Ebdon and the winner of the 2012 Six-Red World Championship, England’s Mark Davis successfully made their way into the initial round.
They performed tremendously in the fourth and final round of the qualifying session and defeated Andrew Higginson, David Grace and David Gilbert respectively.
The former champ, veteran Davis was up against Andrew Higginson in the final round qualifiers and played tremendously in the match and ousted him by the score line of 5-0. The 54-year-old Nugget did not let his opponent do any damage on the table and nudged
him down. The legendary potter pocketed stunning breaks of 102, 96, 58 and 92 points to push Higginson 5-0 down. Davis will be heading towards China at the end of August to take part in the event.
One of the most tussling qualifying matches was the final qualifier between the former champ Peter Ebdon and David Grace. Both potters played neck-and-neck from the beginning of second session in the match and dragged the match into the decider frame. Grace
showed superb game play from the start of the first session and finished the session with 1-3 lead over Ebdon.
However, Ebdon, despite being under immense pressure, showed sensible form in the second session and cruised into 5-4 victory in the event with the highest break of 92 points.
In another final qualifier, Davis grabbed a whitewash victory against David Gilbert by the score line of 5-0. The Englishman showed great resilience in the game and put Gilbert under immense pressure from the beginning. Davis performed brilliantly in the
new snooker season and was able to claim the 2012 Six-Red World Championship. He is quite determined to make an appearance in the mega event and believes he will be able to get a good result in the end.
