Mark Davis admits he was under pressure against Stuart Bingham: 2012 Wuxi Classic
England’s Mark Davis was up against the winner of the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open, compatriot Stuart Bingham in the semi-final encounter of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament.
Davis played impressively against Bingham in the second session of the match at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China but still was unable to win the match and tumbled down by the score line of 6-5.
The Englishman underwent immense pressure when he slipped four frames down in the opening session of the match. However, he did show some courage when he began his second session run and breezed his way to 4-4 level. Bingham was definitely feeling helpless
when Davis sprang back terrifically in the game.
The real pressure started building when both cuemen entered the final proceedings of the match where making one silly mistake could cost tremendously. Both Bingham and Davis shared the next two frames to reach 5-5 level. The situation was very tense because
the game entered a state where only that player can win who can handle the pressure better.
Bingham stayed focused while Davis lost his grip of the match and made a couple of misses in pressure which caused him the semi-final defeat. Davis admitted after the match that he was under a lot of pressure which he could not handle properly and dropped
down.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Davis said, “It would have been my first final, but I've felt more nervous than that in the past in other matches so it wasn't really that, I just wanted to win the match. It was only one ball that I should've
got, that I didn't cue well on that I can think of. I missed a couple of others but they weren't easy.”
He added, “But the pressure gets to everybody, I did twitch it, I don't mind admitting that, everyone does. Anyone that says they don't is a liar.”
Bingham has now made his way into the final encounter of the tournament where he will take on either Ricky Walden or Marcus Campbell. It will be exciting to see how well Bingham performs in the final session of the tournament.
