Mark Davis beats Robert Milkins to reserve his place in 2012 World Snooker Championship
First-round line up of the upcoming 2012 World Snooker Championship has been formulated after the finish of qualifying session at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. Veteran potters like the former seven-time World Snooker Champion Stephen Hendry and
former Champion Ken Doherty of Ireland have already qualified for the opening round of the Championship.
Meanwhile, England’s Mark Davis also secured his place in the Championship after he defeated compatriot Robert Milkins in the final qualifying match by the score line of 10-5. It is like a dream coming true for Davis because he was struggling to book his
place in the event. Milkins seemed an easy opponent for him as he easily hit the victory.
After pocketing some superb snooker breaks of 72, 84 and 73, Davis led the game by the score line of 6-3 until the end of the first session. The second session was again dominated by the Englishman as he clinched four frames to reach 10-5 and ensure his
success. Milkins had no chance to capitalise in both sessions and easily slipped down by five frames.
During his post match interview with World Snooker, Davis said, “It didn't feel like a convincing win because you're giving 110 per cent in every frame. Rob is a very tough opponent and he can reel off frames. I had a bit of run which makes a difference.”
The English potter added, “I used to lack self belief, I didn't fancy beating anyone. I've had chances to get into the top 16 this season, and I do want to get in, but it's not that big a deal. If an old biddy like me got in for the first time I'm sure it
would be a record.”
Davis has been drawn against the former World Snooker Championship runner up, compatriot Ali Carter in the initial round of the mega competition. Of course he will be looking forward to beat Carter and make his way into the advance stages of the contest.
However, defeating Carter will be tough for Davis because he is one of the most competitive opponents of the game.
