Mark Davis books final spot beating Ricky Walden in semi-final of 2012 Six-Red World Championship
England’s Mark Davis performed outstandingly in the recently finished 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China. Davis made his way into the semi-final stage of the tournament where he tumbled down against the winner
of the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event by the score line of 5-6.
His impressive performance in the 2012 Wuxi Classic event has given him a new boost in the confidence and he has been able to perform the same way in the 2012 Six-Red World Championship. The Englishman showed great determination during his run in the event
cruising his way into the semi-final stage against the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event winner Ricky Walden, easily defeating him by the score line of 7-2.
The English potter was up against Panompai Powises of Thailand in the quarter-final stage of the tournament and was able to beat him by the score line of 7-5. The match up was tussling in the first session where both potters were playing competitively in
order to nudge each other down. Winning over the Thai potter gave a lot of confidence which was enough for Davis to beat Walden easily in the semi-final.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Davis said, “I'm really up for this one. I feel I have under-achieved so far in my professional career and that's my fault entirely, I had no self belief and it's only in the last couple of years or so that
I've turned the corner.”
He added, “You can get away with this problem to a certain level though not at the very top. I managed to win a six red tournament in Ireland a couple of years ago, beating Mark Williams in the final, and its just my luck the event has never been held again
until now!”
The opening session of the semi-final match up was very close as the pair was in a hurry to earn a quick lead but Davis won the tussle and grabbed the lead to keep it until the end of the game. Davis will be happy with his performance as he has made it to
the finals of the tournament.
